Timothy Harbarger was born on 26 March 1956 in Huntsville, Alabama. In 1990, SSG Harbarger was assigned to the 123rd Ordnance Detachment at Fort Rucker, Alabama. In the early morning hours of 16 September 1990, Staff Sergeant Timothy Harbarger exhibited unparalleled heroism when he voluntarily risked his own life by entering the path of an oncoming vehicle in Enterprise, Alabama, in an effort to save a young woman who was crossing the roadway. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and was skidding our of control. Despite the danger, Staff Sergeant Harbarger left the safety of the roadway edge and made a dash for the young lady. The vehicle struck the woman and Staff Sergeant Harbarger. This valiant effort and his total disregard for this own personal safety was recognized by the award of the Soldiers Medal, the nations highest award for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy.
