Harwell, Charles E.

Charles Edward Harwell was born on 17 February 1932 in Madison County, Alabama. He joined the US Army in 1951 to fight in the Korean War, training first as an infantryman and then qualifying as a parachutist. During his combat in the Korean War, he was awarded the nation's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross, the nation's third highest award for valor, the Silver Star and the Bronze Star with V Device for valor. Sergeant Harwell left the service in 1954, returning to Huntsville, Alabama.
