Donald V Helgeson was born on 14 June 1918 in Vermillion, North Dakota. He joined the US Army on 3 November 1941 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the infantry. LT Helgeson participated in the United States first World War II attack in Algeria and then on to Tunisia. By 1943, he was with the US forces attacking and occupying Sicily. Captain Helgeson then fought his way onshore at Normandy on D-Day. Fighting his way through France and on into Germany, Captain Helgeson was awarded the nation's third highest valor medal, the Silver Star, for his gallantry in action against the German Army in September 1945. Rejoining the service after World War II, Major Helgeson then fought in the Korean War. LTC Don Helgeson retired from the US Army and worked in Huntsville, Alabama for Proposal Concepts.
