Roy Blair was born on 28 July 1916 in Huntsville, Alabama. Roy entered the service on 3 February 1943 and attended Officer Candidate School, being commissioned as a second lieutenant in the engineers. LT Blair participated in battles starting in Africa and then led his men through Normandy, across northern France and into the Rhineland. On 21 December 1944, Lieutenant Blair earned the Bronze Star for heroism while engaged with German forces. He also was awarded the Purple Heart for combat wounds during this action. LT Blair was relieved from active duty on 13 December 1945, returning to Huntsville, Alabama.
