Though his battery began to receive direct hits, he remained at his position and continued to fire despite the great threat to his own life. For this valorous action, Specialist Wyenandt was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Valor Device. Larry was awarded his second Army Commendation Medal with Valor Device on 7 June 1969 while serving as a Section Chief. Sergeant Wyenandt, under heavy enemy fire, courageously remained in his exposed position and continued to direct accurate fire against the hostile force.
