William Bryant was born in St Louis, Missouri on March 19, 1923. He moved to Huntsville, AL and entered the service on June 11, 1943 from Ft. McClellan, AL. Private Bryant trained as an infantryman and joined Company G of the 338th Infantry in Italy where he earned the coveted Combat Infantryman Badge. During combat in Northern Italy, PFC Bryant was awarded the Purple Heart for a head wound. The following day, 12 October 1944, PFC Bryant earned the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement in action. William Bryant settled in the Huntsville, AL area after separation from the US Army following WWII.
